Törggelen in the Isarco Valley/South Tyrol

Törggelen is an ancient South Tyrolean tradition oft he areas where sweet chest nuts and wine grow well.

The word it self comes from the term“Torggel”, the room with the wine press. Today, the South Tyrolean people celebrate Törggelen in the fall, with merry get-togethers to taste the new wine, to enjoy a hearty meal of barley soup, “Schlutzkrapfen” (homemade ravioli), cheese dumplings, meat platters, sausages, pork ribs and sauerkraut. Nuts, apples, sweet donuts and roasted chestnuts generally follow the sumptuous meal.
